Some notes first:
=================
Now that you have installed JVFAX 7.1 on your hard disk you should
first read the file 'NEWS.DOC' to find out what's new in this version.
A complete instruction manual can be found in the file 'ENGLISH.DOC'
in the DOCS directory.
Eventually, you should print this documentation, e.g. by:
'COPY ENGLISH.DOC LPT1'
Please set your printer to 12 cpi before printing this file.
A small overviev of the different types of demodulators, modulators,
and some addresses of hardware suppliers can be found in the
file 'INTERF.DOC. (DOCS directory)
IMPORTANT:
==========
If you want to use JVFAX for the transmission of FAX-/SSTV-pictures
you have the choice of three different methods of audio generation.
1) by an external modulator, such as is contained in the 'EASYFAX'
for example. (Configuration setting 'serial port', or
'parallel port' in the modulator field.)
2) by the built in PC speaker. You will have do do some wiring to
get the signal out of the computer. (see INTERF.DOC)
(Configuration setting 'speaker')
3) by the TxD-pin of any serial port. Here, an audio signal
is directly generated at the transmit data pin of the serial
port. Just as in 2), you will have to do some filtering. See
INTERF.DOC. (Configuration setting: 'serial audio')
Best results can be obtained when using method 1).
When using method 2), results will be good, but on slow machines it
might be necessary not to load any memory managers such as EMM 386
or QEMM etc.
Only HIMEM.SYS should be loaded to enable the access to XMS memory.
When using Method 3), it's an absolute 'must' not to load memory
managers such as QEMM, EMM386 etc. (Exceptions: You're running a
'486 or pentium computer)
Without memory managers loaded, and with a not too slow computer,
the results using method 3) should be surprisingly good,
especially when you keep in mind that you won't have to do any
hardware modifications to your computer and that the external parts
for low pass filtering can be obtained for less than 2 US-$.
Other than former JVFAX versions this 7.0 version supports full
64 gray scale audio generation when using the 'serial audio' setting.
When recieving with a comparator type or 'HAMCOMM' interface, you should
also avoid to load the above mentioned memory managers.
If you're a programmer yourself and if you should wish to make some
'nasty' interfaces cooperate with JVFAX you should study the
file 'JVTSR.PAS' in the DOCS directory.
If you should have further questions regarding JVFAX you should ask
an 'expert' in your neighbourhood.
Please avoid calling me by phone.
My wife and children are normally very tolerant what concerns my
hobby. But they always are getting quite angry when I'm hanging
on the phone all the evening.
So, please do only call in cases of 'emergency'. This will perhaps
guarantee that some time in the future, there might be a JVFAX 8.0.
Just as its predecessors, JVFAX 7.1 is freeware.
This means in special that you need not pay for using this program.
If however, you feel that you should do something good to me by
sending some kind of donation you can do so without having to fear
that I will get angry about it.
